Jack Herer Has Died

It’s 4:20 on this man’s watch.

Cultural icon Jack Herer passed away this morning.

If you don’t know who that is/was, investigate.

If a Mount Rushmore of marijuana law reformers ever existed, Jack might very well be in the place of George Washington (a cultivator of hemp, btw).

To Jack’s family and friends, we offer our sympathy and support.

Here’s a link to a  tribute that Sensi Seeds recently posted on their site:

Smoking Hot News – 2/05/10

In this edition: news from the state house, cops on pot and Christians on cannabis.

  • Sen. Romer’s Patient’s bill continues to fly through the legislature, passing the house judiciary committee unanimously.  Included is the Cannabis Therapy Institute leveling some of the harshest criticism to date, blasting the $1 million needed to “prosecute physicians.”  Full text is available here.
  • Rep. Ken Summers says he’s not sold on all of the language, but “nobody’s happy with it, we’ve probably got a good bill.”
  • 9News investigates inconsistencies in how medicinal marijuana is viewed relative to probation in different districts.  Rule #1: don’t use a whizzinator.
  • Steve Fox, co-author of Marijuana is Safer: So why are we driving people to drink?, has a new AlterNet blog and kicks off with a focus on law enforcement and their role in the medicinal marijuana debate.
  • A group of Ft. Collins Christians hold a frank discussion about marijuana and its role in Christianity.  In an Irish Pub.  They didn’t reach any conclusions, but godandscience.org has.
  • A NYPD officer who claims his wife spiked his meatballs with marijuana was denied a state appeal.  This story made me waaaay too hungry.
